The new Curvi Speakers are unique in both sound and aesthetics. First of all, you may notice they are, well, curvy. This design choice is used to mimic the human form but also adds a level of high fidelity. The shape doubles as a free-flow transmission line, which provides the full range drive unit with a near-ideal acoustic load with low frequencies being bolstered by the port output. In English, it looks and sounds great. The cabinet is plywood, which helps boost fidelity as well.
The speakers are £3995 per pair.
Designer Martin Emila has designed what is possibly the world’s ultimate multimedia chair, aptly named the Media Chair. The pod-like shape looks to be as comfortable as your mother’s womb, and an iPod dock is seamlessly integrated into the body. The headrest includes a built-in 3-way speaker for surround sound and on the left side is placed a compact projector for video projections. Pretty cool.
However, it’s just a concept for now. So you hermits will have to watch videos all day instead of engaging in real human contact through some other means. For the time being at least.
Blumenhofer Acoustics has you wealthy audiophiles covered with Clara Luna, their new three-way horn speaker system. The unit promises to be the best of the best, which comes as no surprise given it’s named after a Beethoven sonata. The Clara Luna system may just deliver on that promise, featuring a 16 inch midrange unit developed by Japanese manufacturer TAD. The system also features a titanium dome tweeter designed in-house. Clara Luna also features an active woofer whose diameter clocks in at an impressive 21 inches. The unit’s frequency response is 16Hz to 20kHz ±2dB and it features sensitivity as high as 102dB. It’s available now for approximately $141,439.
Do you like sitting in chairs? Do you like sound? Of course you do! So why not combine the two with Acousticom’s forthcoming Sound Egg chair. It’s a chair designed to deliver the highest fidelity sounds right to your ear drums. Also, it looks really cool in a “1960s vision of the future” kind of way.
The company will formally unveil the chair at the CES consumer electronics show in Las Vegas in January. The, um, musical chair boasts a 5.1 surround sound system with full 20 Hz - 20 kHz response, and a 10″ subwoofer underneath the seat. The chair can be configured to stereo, gaming or computing. It’s going to be in a wide variety of colors and retail for a surprisingly affordable $1,450.
Also, with that subwoofer under the seat are you thinking what I’m thinking? That’s right. Throw on something bassy and get a leg massage.
Reports indicate that a “mysterious British celebrity” has commissioned to have their Fender Stratocaster electric guitar gold-plated. Details on who ordered the gold dipping are scant, but we at Techcraving are gonna go with Patrick Stewart. It’s just like Captain Picard to demand the best in life by dipping a guitar in pure 24K gold.
British luthier Kim Webber fielded the task of disassembling and reassembling the prized music maker.
“This guitar has generated, without doubt, more interest than anything I have created so far” he said.
However, he admits it has one fatal flaw.
“”It’s not the best sounding ever.”
Reps from Guitarist Magazine echo that sentiment but also note that it’s the first time they had seen anything like it.
“It’s certainly a unique look, but we’re not sure we’d trust ourselves to gig it.” They said. Bad news for those expecting Patrick Stewart to form a band.
