Sand & Birch have long been known for their elegant and interesting takes on the classic wine cellar. Their new brainchild, Opale, may take the cake. It looks more like a piece of art than a useful appliance. Note the elliptical shape and the huge black stone. This thing is beautiful. Opale stands tow meters tall and can hold more than 100 bottles of wine. The hi-tech features include an automatic door, which can be activated by a remote control-zapper, or even by touch. The insides of the cellar feature LED lighting and, of course, features the same automatic temperature controls the company have long been known for. No word yet on pricing or availability.
CalSpas is at it again! We recently reported on the company’s fireplace with iPod integration but little did we know that was only the first step to backyard world domination. They have now unleashed the Cal Flame G5000. This enviable item doubles as both a fireplace/outdoor firepit and a cocktail table. Now you can roast marshmallows and serve marshmallows all in one handy location. The G5000 features an industrial grade, round glass tabletop that’s large enough to fit full-sized dinner plates. It also features a 360-degree stylish footrest and lighting that bathes the firepit in light. The unit is priced at $6,900 with optional bar stools for a small gathering in your backyard. Is there anything that goes better with beer than music? Ok, well. Besides pizza. And maybe sex. And baseball. Well, music is in the top five for sure! It’s with this in mind, that designer Craig Jones made his series of iPod Kegerators. These units are made from refrigerators and feature hand-made designs like the one shown here. They allow you to pump draft beer right from the center, and an iPod dock with a Bose speaker is placed up top. Also, notice the wheels to move the party wherever it’s needed. Refrigerator, mini dish washer, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster are available at arms reach. An OLED surface and switch to opaque to hide or reveal the refrigerated compartments. Hidden in the inner workings are compartments for appliances and additional food. Even though beverages are stored in the center stack, the computing power is in the table top. Move over Jetsons…
iHouse brings us the ultimate faucet called the SmartFaucet. This features facial recognition to match the user to their temperature and flow preferences. The top mounted touch screen can be used to access calendars, email, weather, and other things. The SmartFaucet even triggers the heats to preheat the water based on the facial profile. An LED readout illustrates the Hot / Cold mix of the water for a graphical representation of whats going on. If this is not the coolest faucet you have ever seen, your crazy.
